Mercilus, Crane announced as 2020 Legacy award winners

HOUSTON – The Harris County Houston Sports Authority announced that Houston Texans outside linebacker Whitney Mercilus will be honored with the 2020 Sportsmanship Award at the Houston Sports Awards on January 21, 2020 at the Hilton Americas. Mercilus is committed to helping those in need and he does just that with his WithMerci Foundation. His mission is to serve children with disabilities in underprivileged families through WithMerci has raised $500,000 since its inception in 2016. Fellow teammate Texans defensive end J.J. Watt won the award the previous two years. Mercilus and Crane join Lifetime Achievement Award Bob McNair, the late Houston Texans owner, as the 2020 Legacy Award winners.

The hotel's award-winning pastry chefs and operations team create the holiday display every year. The stunning display took crews 2,000 hours and five months to build. The family figures and toys are all made from 1,200 pounds of dark chocolate and hand-painted with 800 pounds of white chocolate.

Hilton Americas-HoustonHOUSTON - A 2.5-ton chocolate display will grace the lobby of a Houston hotel this holiday season. The Hilton Americas-Houston will feature 6.5 million calories of chocolate delights in its chocolate and gingerbread display honoring Dr. Seuss' The Grinch. This intricately carved and sculpted confectionary creation, open to the public, is on display in the main lobby rotunda of Hilton Americas-Houston, located at 1600 Lamar Street is on display through Dec. 29. The lobby holiday lights will shine until January 2. Each of the toys is hand-sculpted from dark chocolate, with every detail reproduced to look like the real thing -- right down to the sugary rust in the white chocolate paint of the chocolate toy truck."

It cautioned, though, that the city may ultimately relocate the house when road work around the freeway is completed.Of note, the team last year extended its lease of Minute Maid Park through 2050.
