White, Memphis overcome Houston rally for 30-27 win

(AP) – Riley Patterson kicked a 47-yard field goal as time expired to give Memphis a 30-27 win over Houston following the Cougars’ improbable comeback on Saturday. Tune threw a 13-yard score to Marquez Stevenson early in the fourth after a 10-play, 75-yard drive. The game-tying drive ended when Tune threw an 18-yard scoring pass to Bryson Smith with 28 seconds to go. Brady White responded to lead Memphis (7-3, 5-3 American Athletic Conference) on a 5-play, 46-yard drive to set up Patterson. With the win, Memphis finished a second consecutive season undefeated at home for the first time in program history.

Tune, Houston hit high note in 56-21 blowout over S. Florida

HOUSTON – Clayton Tune amassed 306 total yards and accounted for five touchdowns and Houston beat South Florida 56-21 on Saturday. Tune threw for 165 yards and three touchdowns, ran for 120 yards on 10 carries with two rushing scores and caught a pass for 21 yards. Houston (3-3, 3-2 American Athletic Conference) was never threatened in the process of building a 42-0 lead after 2-1/2 quarters. Houston scored a pair of touchdowns in each quarter and totaled 505 yards of overall offense. Jordan McCloud led South Florida (1-7, 0-6) with 180 yards passing and a touchdown pass while Brian Battie ran for 86 yards on 13 carries.

Gabriel leads potent UCF offense past Houston 44-21

HOUSTON – Dillon Gabriel passed for 328 yards and two touchdowns, UCF rushed for another 300-plus and the balanced, high-octane offense swamped Houston 44-21 on Saturday. Gabriel, who leads the nation in yards passing per game, was 19 of 33 for 328 yards with a pair of TD passes to Ryan O'Keefe. Houston (2-2, 2-1) lost for the first time in conference with Clayton Tune throwing two interceptions that resulted in 14 UCF points. Tune was 21-of-41 passing for 263 yards and a touchdown. Tune capped a quick, 82-yard fourth-quarter drive with a touchdown toss and two-point conversion pass, closing to 37-21 with 4:17 remaining.

Tune leads Houston past Navy in 37-21 win

(AP) – Clayton Tune threw for 316 yards and three touchdowns and Houston beat Navy 37-21 on Saturday. Dalen Morris completed a 60-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Mitchell to give Navy a 13-9 lead with 4:02 left before halftime. The Cougars held Navy (3-3, 3-1) to 11 yards in six plays on the ensuing drive and forced a punt. Houston then used a 10-play, 77-yard drive that ended with a 33-yard touchdown pass from Tune to Porter for a 17-point advantage. Tune wrapped it up with 24-yard touchdown pass to Stevenson with 5:24 left to play.

Wilson throws 4 TDs in No. 14 BYU’s 43-26 win over Houston

Wilson gave BYU the lead back with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Masen Wake with 10:35 left to make it 29-26 following a 2-point conversion pass from Wilson to Tyler Allgeier. Wilson threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Milne with three minutes remaining before Allgeier iced it with a 14-yard touchdown run with 1:40 left. Clayton Tune finished 21 of 31 for 310 yards and two touchdowns to lead Houston (1-1).

UH’s Tune is the clear starter for the Cougars in 2020 season, coach says

HOUSTON – University of Houston head football coach Dana Holgorsen made it clear that Clayton Tune will be his starting quarterback entering the 2020 season. “Good news is he’s a clear number one and there’s no quarterback controversy what so ever,” Holgorsen said prior to the team’s fourth day of spring practice. Tune passed for 1,533 yards and 11 touchdowns, including a season-high 407 yards vs SMU on October 24. @UHCougarFB head coach @Holgorsendana said @ClaytonTune7 is the Coogs “clear number one quarterback.” Team practicing with intense crowd noise this morning. The Coogs won just four games under new head coach Dana Holgorsen.

No. 25 Cincinnati holds off Houston late to win 38-23

HOUSTON - Desmond Ridder passed for 263 yards and three touchdowns and No. 25 Cincinnati held off Houston's late surge to beat the Cougars 38-23 on Saturday. Trailing 21-10, Houston quarterback Clayton Tune re-energized the home crowd with a career-long 69-yard touchdown pass to Marquez Stevenson to start the second half. Houston: With D'Eriq King redshirting the rest of the season, Houston has been seeking his permanent replacement for this year. Houston: The Cougars travel to UConn on Oct. 19 for the teams' first meeting since 2016.
