THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The first samples of mosquitoes taken in the The Woodlands this season have tested positive for the West Nile virus, according to officials.
Officials said the positive results were found last week, and that mosquito-abatement efforts have been underway ever since. They said the treatment operations will continue through the rest of the week.

Mosquito samples are collected across southern Montgomery County from May to October every year, officials said.
Officials said urged people should wear repellent, eliminate standing water and treat water that cannot be eliminated. They said this will reduce the chance of exposure to mosquito-borne illnesses.
