According to preliminary information, a car was traveling south on Reveille at a high rate of speed when it went through two red lights and struck another vehicle in the intersection. Officers and medics tried lifesaving measures, but the driver of the speeding vehicle — a woman in her 20s — was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The other driver suffered injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. Police said each vehicle had a single occupant.
Lashanda Simmons, who lives in the area, said she heard the crash and went outside to check the area.
“It looked bad, it looked really bad. And come to find out it’s a young lady who’s deceased. It’s sad the way things are happening these days,” she said. “And I pray for the family, to put God in their life to get through this situation.”
Simmons said she’s seen multiple dangerous incidents happen in the area of the crash and urged caution for drivers.
“Around this area, you have to drive for yourself and drive for others,” she said. “It’s real dangerous around here, especially in the middle of the night. Its always something happening as far as wrecks, and everything.”
The Houston Police Department is handling the investigation.
