HPD investigates death of man found unresponsive near downtown Houston

HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating the death of a man found unresponsive late Saturday night near downtown.

Officers with the Houston Police Department’s South Central Division responded to a call around 11 p.m. Saturday to the area of Chartres Street and Congress Street after a report of a male who was unresponsive and not breathing.

Houston Fire Department personnel were called to the scene and pronounced the man dead, according to police. HPD’s Homicide Division was notified after possible foul play was suspected. The cause and manner of death are pending an evaluation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Detectives said one person of interest has been identified and will be interviewed. The man appeared to be experiencing homelessness, police said. Investigators also noted there is no threat to the public at this time.
