Humble police chief placed on unpaid administrative leave

HUMBLE, Texas – Humble Police Chief Dan Zientek has been placed on unpaid administrative leave, the City of Humble confirmed with 2 Investigates on Tuesday.

This comes after Zientek had been placed on paid administrative leave last Thursday during a city council meeting.

Tuesday morning, KPRC 2 learned that his status had been changed to unpaid leave.

City council conducted a recent survey into the police department’s personnel, according to City Manager Jason Steube, and after the results of the survey, they called an executive session focused on “personnel matters,” with the chief.

The “personal matter” was addressed behind closed doors in a private session by the five council members and the city manager.

About 75 minutes into the meeting, they brought Chief Zientek in for 35 minutes. Zientek then came back into the chambers before he was brought back in at around 9:15 p.m.

Shortly afterwards, the chief left out the back door.

The city says it has hired the law firm of Olson and Olson for an independent review that should last into the new year because of the holidays.

The city did not say who was in charge of the police department or what was next.

Zientek became chief of the Humble Police Department on May 30.
