City of Katy under Stage 2 drought contingency plan as heat creates high water demand

KATY, Texas – The City of Katy said they are now under a Stage 2 drought contingency plan as extreme heat has created a high demand for water.

Under stage 2, the public is asked to reduce watering or irrigating landscaping to three times a week. Watering should be done between 12 a.m. and 8 a.m. and between 8 p.m. and 11:59 p.m.

The city will also halt non-essential usage of water use, including street cleaning, vehicle washing, and operation of ornamental fountains.

The public is also encouraged to wait until the current drought has passed before establishing new landscape.

The reduction of water for power washing of buildings, sidewalks, walkways, driveways, parking lots, tennis courts, or other hard-surfaced areas is also encouraged.
