HOUSTON – A fire on Monday destroyed a southwest Houston church, producing a pillar of thick smoke along a heavily traveled freeway during the morning commute.
The fire was reported around midnight at the Mount of Salvation at 9406 Alberene Drive, near Southwest Freeway and Bissonnet Street.
Video from Sky 2 showed several fire trucks at the scene, blocking the street.

A hole could be seen in the roof of the church as crews worked to extinguish the blaze.
Church elders told KPRC 2 that the back of the building was destroyed and is a total loss.
"I don't (know) what we're going to do. We're going to have a meeting, see what God can do for us right now, because it's bad in there," said church elder Chaim Opara.
The congregation, which is made up of about 25 people, is devastated that their house of worship went up in flames.
Arson investigators have not determined an exact cause to this fire, but Opara said investigators believe it could have been started because of an electrical issue.
