Family identifies innocent man killed in shooting in northeast Houston
Jason Jolley was 41
HOUSTON – An innocent man was killed in a shooting Sunday in northeast Houston.
Police said the victim, identified by family members as Jason Jolley, 41, was sitting on a concrete pillar in the parking lot of a car wash in the 11200 block of Homestead around 10 p.m. when a person shot at a moving car in a nearby parking lot of a Big City Food.
“He had gotten him something to eat and he was going to come on to the house,” said Kendra Larkin, Jolley’s sister.
But, he never made it.
More than 23 shell casings were found at the scene, police said. At least one of then hit Jolley as he sat at the car wash, killing him.
A family friend knocked on Larkin’s door.
“I said 'Is he OK? Did they call the ambulance' and he said, “It don't look good you need to come.’”
Police said there were multiple shooters in the parking lot and at least one in a car driving by.
No other injuries were reported.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
“He did not deserve to die a violent death like this. No one does,” Larkin said.
Members of the community said Jolley was generous and would help people load their groceries at the store.
“He told me today (Monday) he wanted to help someone on the next street that couldn't walk to go to the doctor. That's how kind and sweet he was,” Larkin said.
The 41-year-old volunteered at Big City Food Store on Homestead near Mount Houston for many years.
“Sacking groceries, taking them out, talking to the customers about sports. He loved that,” said Larkin.
No arrests have been made.
Police are asking the public to come forward with a description of the vehicle and the gunmen.
Even in his death, Jason will continue his life's mission. His family plans to donate his eyes to someone who needs them.
“I just want someone to be able to have those beautiful eyes of his and to be able to see the world just as Jason did,” said Larkin.
