The first day of school has arrived for students in Crosby ISD, marking the beginning of the 2026-27 school year for one of the first districts in the Houston area to welcome students back to the classroom.
While many families across the Houston area are still enjoying the final days of summer break, more Houston-area school districts will begin classes over the next several weeks.
As students return, officials are reminding drivers that school-year traffic patterns are back in effect.
School buses will once again travel their regular routes, school zones will be active, and more children will be walking, biking, and riding e-bikes and scooters to and from campus.
Drivers should also expect heavier traffic around schools during the morning and afternoon commute as campuses reopen.
Whether your local district starts classes today, next week or later this month, safety officials say it’s important to begin practicing safe driving habits now.
