LA PORTE, Texas – La Porte police and fire crews are investigating after a driver slammed an SUV into two homes Tuesday morning.
The crash happened just before 9 a.m. in the area of Rocky Hollow Road and Roseberry.
"It was crazy. He was driving so fast," Victor Garcia said.
He said it was a wake-up call he'll never forget.
"I was just in the living room with my wife and we just a heard a big noise," he said.
The big noise was the moment when the SUV went full-speed into his home.
According to police, the driver was speeding down the street when he lost control and slammed into Garcia's house and a vacant house across the street.
"We went to see if he was OK, and he said, 'No, I think my neck is broken,'" Garcia said.
The impact took down the side of Garcia's garage and part of his backyard fence. But he said he's grateful because it could have been a lot worse.
"The important thing for me is that my kids were not here in that moment, other kids, so the car didn't hit someone," he said.
The driver of the SUV was transported to Bayshore Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The La Porte Police Department's Traffic Unit continues to investigate what caused the driver to lose control.
