HOUSTON – Unique Green, the Houston-area funeral director arrested on five felonies last week, has been released from jail after posting an $800,000 bond.

Green, who also is referred to as Michael in court records, is accused of stealing a dead man’s more than $2 million estate while posing as his spouse and working as an unlicensed funeral director at A Community Funeral Home.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Green was released from jail just before 5 a.m. on Tuesday. The bonding company would not provide information about who paid any of the money that led to Green’s release.
Houston Police and the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office had been investigating Green for months after executing a search warrant at the funeral home mid-service late last year.
The family of Lawrence Gammon contacted investigators after they said they hired Green for funeral arrangements, provided his personal information over email, but ended up not getting any funeral services and realized they may have been scammed, according to records.
Green filed documents in probate court, including what attorneys have argued was a fake last will and testament, claiming that Gammon left his entire estate to Green. An attorney representing Green in that case told KPRC 2 News last week that Green maintains having rights to the estate, but wouldn’t clarify the relationship between the two.
Gammon’s family has said they did not know Green or any connection between the two prior to his death, according to records.
In addition to allegedly trying to steal his estate, Green is also accused of submitting fraudulent documents to the Texas Funeral Service Commission to obtain a license to be a funeral director and embalmer, including claiming to have fake military service, before running A Community Funeral Home without a license.
Green has an arraignment hearing scheduled for Friday.
