Katy, Texas – Drivers who use Peek Road in Katy, just south of FM 529, say one stretch has become frustrating.
The stretch of Peek Road bottlenecks between Stockdick School Road and Beckendorff Road.

The nearly mile-long stretch runs directly in front of the Aurora neighborhood, where the roadway narrows from four lanes to two.
Aurora resident, Kabir Butt, reached out to KPRC, saying the issue has gone on for years and residents want it addressed.
“It’s been like this for over five years,” Butt said. “There are no sidewalks on either side of the road. It could be expanded so there’s more safety for kids.”
Butt said he contacted Harris County Precinct 4 and Commissioner Lesley Briones’ office but was given little to no information about what would be done about Peek road. So he reached out to KPRC.
“‘We’re working on things, we’ve spent money,’” Butt said precincts response. “When you start hearing that, you just kind of start backing off. We can’t force them to do anything.”
KPRC reached out to Precinct 4 for answers to a couple of questions:
How is the precinct looking at addressing the congestion in the area with new neighborhoods popping up?
- Public safety is Commissioner Briones’ top priority.
- Since taking office in 2023, Commissioner Briones’ team has taken a data-driven approach to improve safety and address congestion due to rapid growth.
Precinct 4 Project Map:
- Mobility plan to prioritize projects in areas that need relief most
- Partnering with the Harris County Engineer to update design guidelines/standards to protect drivers and pedestrians
- Precinct 4 is pursuing regional and federal grants to augment county capital funding and deliver projects faster.
- Two more widening projects are underway later this summer:
- Peek Road between Grand Parkway and Clay Road
- Porter Road between Morton Road and Clay Road
- Design and study work underway for:
- Clay, Pitts, and Stockdick School Roads
Why does the road shrink down to two lanes?
- The two-lane road was built back when the area was mostly farmland. Western Harris County is one of the fastest-growing areas in Texas/U.S., and Precinct 4 is taking action to meet the changing infrastructure needs.
- We are actively designing a project to widen Peek Road to four lanes, including:
- New sidewalks
- Upgraded underground storm drainage
- Land acquisition is underway, and construction is set to kick off in 2027.
For now, residents like Butt say they’ll continue navigating the roads bottleneck and sidewalk conditions while waiting for work to begin. Precinct 4 officials say work to address those issues has already begun.
