HISD makes donation to See to Succeed program No description found
HOUSTON – Thousands of Houston children will get free eye exams and free eyeglasses, thanks to a donation made to the city's See to Succeed program.
The Houston Independent School District gave a $100,000 grant to the program. It was accepted by Mayor Annise Parker during an event in The Heights on Monday.
This donation matches a previous grant from the Laura and John Arnold Foundation.
Launched in 2011, See to Succeed is a partnership between HISD and the Houston Department of Health & Human Services. To qualify, students must have failed a vision screening with a school nurse and been referred to the program for assistance.
HDHHS estimates there are at least 6,000 students each year ages 6-18 with unmet need for prescription eyeglasses.
