HOUSTON – Four people are dead following what investigators describe as an apparent murder-suicide at a home in River Oaks.
Police say a 52-year-old man is believed to have shot and killed his 39-year-old wife and their two children — an 8-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy — before taking his own life.
Officers discovered the family inside the home. Authorities have not released a possible motive as the investigation continues.
Property records link the couple to Traveler’s Table in Montrose. A worker at the restaurant confirmed to KPRC 2 that the couple was connected to the business, but a manager declined to comment and asked a reporter to leave.
The restaurant’s menu is inspired by dishes from around the world, reflecting the couple’s travels.
For customers, the news has been difficult to process.
“It’s shocking, absolutely shocking. It’s tragic — it really, really is just tragic and shouldn’t happen,” said Christopher Dean, a patron at the restaurant.
Eric Sandler, editor of CultureMap Houston, said he had known the couple since the restaurant opened.

“I’ve been with them to celebrate all kinds of occasions and seen them expand into a second concept,” Sandler said.
He described the couple as deeply involved in both their business and their staff.
“They loved celebrating with people, creating memories, and nurturing their staff — promoting from within,” he said.
Sandler also pointed to the broader challenges facing restaurant owners.
“There’s the economic reality — rising costs for labor and goods, insurance, rent,” he said.
He emphasized there is no indication those pressures played a role in this case.
“I can’t predict the future. I don’t know if these restaurants will stay open, but for now they are, and they have employees who need our support,” Sandler said.
The couple also owned another concept, Traveler’s Cart. The investigation remains ongoing.
