Homeowner shoots, kills suspected burglar in northwest Harris County

Precinct 4 Constable Deputies said the suspect was found shot to death behind the home near a bayou

A suspected home intruder is dead after being shot by a homeowner in northwest Harris County, according to deputies with Mark Herman’s Office.

Deputies responded to the 16900 block of Spring Creek Oaks Court after reports of a break-in in progress. Investigators say a suspect entered the home through a back door and was confronted by the homeowner. During that confrontation, the homeowner reported firing shots.

The suspect fled the scene and was initially described as a man wearing a blue hoodie and a ski mask.

A short time later, deputies located the suspect in a bayou area behind the residence, suffering from a gunshot wound.

EMS was called to the scene, but authorities later confirmed the suspect was pronounced dead.

The homeowner has been detained as part of the ongoing investigation, which is standard procedure in cases involving the use of deadly force.

Constable deputies and detectives remain on scene working to determine the full sequence of events, including what led up to the attempted break-in.

This is an active investigation. Authorities have not released the identities of those involved.
