Houston – For more than three decades, Dessert Gallery has been part of Houston’s celebrations, from birthday cakes to everyday sweet treats.
Founded in 1995 by Sara Brook, the local bakery has grown alongside the city while keeping one thing the same: its desserts are made from scratch. Brook says her love of baking started when she was a child, when her babysitter taught her how to read a recipe on the back of a chocolate chip cookie package.
That early passion eventually led Brook to open Dessert Gallery. She says owning a bakery was not originally part of her plan, but she followed her passion and built the business into a Houston staple.
Brook says she still loves baking at home and keeps cookie dough in her freezer for when friends and family stop by. She also credits her longtime employees for helping make Dessert Gallery what it is today.
That team is especially meaningful around National Bakery Day, which celebrates the people behind the desserts. Brook says Dessert Gallery’s bakers and decorators make everything from scratch, from breaking eggs for lemon bars to making German chocolate filling in-house.
As Dessert Gallery celebrates 31 years, Brook says she still has a hard time believing how much time has passed. This National Bakery Day, Dessert Gallery is also encouraging Houstonians to support local bakeries and the people who keep these sweet traditions going.
