Fetal remains discovered inside freezer of Independence Heights home

HOUSTON – Homicide detectives are investigating after fetal remains were discovered inside a freezer at an Independence Heights home.

Investigators say the remains were found Friday morning after a woman—whose age has not been released—experienced a medical emergency. She reportedly did not know she was pregnant.

The remains may have been placed in the freezer Wednesday, according to investigators, but the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death and whether the baby was viable.

Police say there is no indication of foul play at this time.

Everyone in the home is cooperating, according to police, who encouraged anyone facing a similar emergency to call 911 without delay and explain what happened.
