When Suzie and her husband moved to their Spring, Texas home a little over a year ago, the giant sliding glass door that opened to the backyard was one of the biggest selling points. The only problem? The outdoor space wasn’t living up to its potential.
“Immediately we knew that we had to do something more with the space to really create that entertainment vibe that we were going for,” Suzie said.
They turned to Allied Outdoor Solutions, a full-service outdoor living company that has been building backyards since 2009.
A bad experience sparked a better decision
Suzie’s motivation to go with a trusted company wasn’t just about aesthetics — it was personal. A previous backyard project at her former home involving an unlicensed contractor hadn’t gone as planned.
“We previously lived in the DFW-area and we did some work in our backyard and it didn’t go the way I wanted,” she said. “This time around we wanted to make sure we went with someone that could do it right, take everything off our hands.”
Carved stone: Durable, customizable, dog-proof
One feature that immediately caught Suzie’s attention was Allied’s use of carved stone — a durable, 100% customizable material that sits over concrete. For a household with two large dogs and plenty of foot traffic, it was the perfect fit.
“We thought that would be super durable for our dogs and to have lots of foot traffic and for entertainment,” Suzie said.
Jess Lester, Allied Outdoor Solutions Director of Marketing, noted that customization is one of carved stone’s biggest selling points.
“You were able to pick your pattern, shape, colors, everything to make sure that it matched your existing structure and the look and feel you were ultimately trying to achieve,” she said.
Fire pit takes center stage
At the heart of the backyard transformation is a stunning fire pit — the feature Suzie said she wanted from day one.
“They helped me choose the stone, they helped me choose the shape, all the way down to the rock and the glass that’s inside the fire pit,” she said.
Allied Outdoor Solutions also handled the installation of gas lines to fuel it — a detail that underscored the company’s all-in-one approach.
That full-service model is something Allied takes pride in, according to Jess.
“You’re not dealing with multiple subcontractors. We’re handling everything in-house — all that communication, the organization, the scheduling, permitting, and HOA approvals if that’s what’s needed,” she said.
Lighting sets the mood
String lights — or what Suzie affectionately calls “happy lights” — strung between custom posts add a warm, inviting glow to the space. Allied installed the electrical work to go along with them, allowing Suzie to control everything from inside the house.
“With a flip of a button inside my house, I can turn the lights on and make the space totally transform,” she said.
Solving Houston’s biggest backyard headache: Mud drainage
For Houston homeowners, mud and drainage issues are a year-round frustration. Suzie came to Allied with one clear demand.
“I’m sick of mud. We live in Houston, it rains a lot, I have two dogs and they were always tracking in mud,” she said.
Allied’s project managers got to work. They installed a flower bed with black rock — mortared in to withstand even the couple’s 100-plus-pound dogs — and built functional, aesthetically pleasing walkways along both sides of the house to address drainage issues head-on.
Financing makes dream backyards accessible
Allied Outdoor Solutions also offers in-house financing, eliminating the need for clients to seek a separate home renovation loan through a bank.
The company has zero-percent financing options available and is offering new customers in the month of May a free green egg grill with their purchase.
