HOUSTON – Old Town Katy is full of small‑town charm and big flavor, and Tanji Patton of GoodTaste with Tanji stopped by to prove it.
In a recent Houston Life segment, Tanji toured local favorites, sampled signature dishes and shared a sweet finish worth a return trip. Here’s what to try on your next weekend outing.
Old Town Katy’s local food story
Old Town Katy has become a go‑to for neighbors who want thoughtful, scratch cooking and a friendly vibe
Chef Lori Pope of Harvest Kitchen & Bakery brings a lifetime of serving others — she says she began cooking at age 5 while growing up with missionary parents in Mexico — and that spirit shows in her menu.
Highlights include the Double Mango Tango tostadas with crispy chicken, spring chicken salad bowl made with house chicken salad, and Double Chicken & Waffles on Belgian Liège pearl‑sugar waffles.
Most menu items are available gluten free and the team welcomes dietary restrictions.
Coffee, breakfast and the brunch you’ll brag about
Humble Grounds Coffeehouse keeps things local from bean to cup. Their Brown Sugar Whipped Espresso is a cooling pick‑me‑up, and the roastery (by “Mr. Humble Grounds” himself) handles in‑house roasting.
For a savory fix try The Rob — an everything bagel topped with avocado, feta, hot sauce and bacon — or the Best of Katy breakfast tacos, with either bacon, roasted potato, or wagyu beef chorizo (locally sourced).
Sweet finish at Southern Dough
Southern Dough Baking Company serves comfort classics and inventive daily specials. Their honey buttermilk chicken salad and the fan‑favorite chicken spaghetti casserole are musts when available.
Tanji also previewed their Peanut Butter Pie — a crushed‑Oreo crust, silky peanut butter filling, fresh whipped cream, caramel and chocolate pieces, and chopped peanuts — which will be featured on the next GoodTaste episode.
