TIMELINE: Stormy weather, heavy rains expected in Houston through Memorial Day weekend

Street flooding is possible as well as severe storms that could bring hail, wind gusts

Tracking numerous storms this week (Copyright 2026 by KPRC Click2Houston - All rights reserved.)

I am tracking a multi-day heavy rain threat beginning Tuesday night and continuing through Friday and possibly through Memorial Day Monday. A series of storm systems will move across Southeast Texas, bringing the potential for significant rainfall totals. My forecast indicates widespread amounts of 2 to 4 inches, with isolated areas north of I-10 potentially receiving over 7 inches. Because we expect multiple rounds of rain, the ground will become saturated quickly, increasing the risk for runoff and street flooding. In addition to the heavy rain, some storms on Tuesday night to Wednesday morning could be strong to severe, capable of producing hail and strong wind gusts. Please stay weather aware this week and ensure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts. Our weather app is a great place to start.

Round #1 Tuesday night to Wednesday morning:

While we have a 40% chance of a pop-up thunderstorm throughout the day, the main line of storms arrives Tuesday night.

2AM Wednesday:

The storms have reached the coast and many of us have been awaken by the rumble of thunder.

6AM Wednesday early ride to work:

As we start the day widespread rain greets us. It ranges from light, moderate to heavy. Be ready for a slow go.

9AM Wednesday we’re almost done for the day:

The last of the rain is late morning. Most of this should be light. The rest of the day looks rain free. If there is another disturbance that arrives late in the day, we’ll let you know.

Rain totals for round #1:

The range is from a 1″ to 3.5″ to fall. Remember this is only round one.

Round #2 Thursday:

This is where the timing gets tough. Because we are tracking small areas of low pressure, called short waves, they usually don’t show up on our micro cast models until 24 hours out. So, for now the general timing is Thursday afternoon. The important thing to keep in mind is we have another street flooding threat.

The highest threat is northwest of Houston (Copyright 2026 by KPRC Click2Houston - All rights reserved.)

Round #3 Friday:

Similar to Thursday the timing and placement of the storms is unknown. But with the pattern we have, another flood threat is with us. If I had to give you a time I’d say late morning to early afternoon. Please check back for updates to the timing.

Saturday through Memorial Day Monday:

There is a chance of storms and heavy rain every day through Memorial Day.

After Memorial Day we may be looking at rain totals for the entire 7-days ranging from 3″-7″!
