CenterPoint Energy has launched major grid resiliency upgrades in Houston ahead of the 2026 hurricane season, including the installation of over 68,000 storm-resilient poles, clearing high-risk vegetation, undergrounding lines, and deploying advanced technology to improve reliability. The company aims to prevent 150 million customer outage minutes by 2026 and has introduced an online Community Progress Tracker for residents to monitor upgrades. Additional efforts include a new Emergency Operations Center, enhanced storm prediction technology, and extensive employee FEMA training and emergency exercises. CenterPoint can increase its frontline workforce up to 20-fold during major storms to speed power restoration.
