HOUSTON – An 18-wheeler carrying an oversized load struck the Houston Avenue bridge on Interstate 10 eastbound Friday morning, blocking two lanes and prompting officials to assess the bridge.
The crash happened around 11:15 a.m. on I-10 eastbound at Houston Avenue, according to traffic information.

The truck was carrying a large spindle and had oversized-load placards displayed. The load remains lodged against the underside of the bridge.
The two right lanes are blocked while Houston police and the Texas Department of Transportation work to remove the truck. Officials are waiting for another rig to arrive to assist with the removal.
The integrity of the bridge is also being assessed, which is standard procedure after a bridge strike.
Drivers should expect delays in the area and use caution while crews work to clear the scene.
