Flight makes emergency return to Houston after windshield shatters

HOUSTON – A United Airlines regional jet headed for El Paso, made an emergency return to Houston Sunday after the first officer’s windshield shattered shortly after takeoff, according to CNN.

The plane had 72 people on board when glass started falling into the cockpit. The pilots told air traffic control they were stopping their climb, slowing down and turning back to George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

“We just had our glass break,” one pilot reported.

The Embraer E175 landed safely around 1 p.m. No one was hurt, and the Houston Fire Department later cleared the aircraft.

The FAA says it will investigate. Mesa Airlines, which operated the flight, said passengers were moved to a another plane to make their way to El Paso.
