North Shore High School’s football program never waivers in its tradition. From the moment a player commits to wearing Mustang red, they understand the expectations of representing the program, community and Galena Park ISD.

This week’s KPRC 2 and UTMB Health Athlete of the Week is North Shore senior wide receiver Quanell Farrakhan, Jr.

Finding a middle linebacker who runs a 4.34 is basically unheard of. What about one who ran a 10.36 100 yard dash? That’s North Shore’s Charles Ross, one of the fastest athletes in the State of Texas, who just happens to play a big hitting position for the Mustangs.

For yet another season the North Shore Mustangs have punched their ticket to the state championship, and for yet another season the team standing in the way of their goal is Dallas’ own, Duncanville.

High School Football Playoffs

The non-district season is a warm-up (no pun intended) for the games that count, but it sure seemed liked last weekend’s slate was meaningful for those on the fields of play. North Shore first-year head coach Willie Gaston earned his first win in a, 38-17, win over then-No. 3 The Woodlands. The Mustangs’ defense ruled the day, while QB Kaleb Bailey knocked off the rust after an ACL injury a year ago.

HOUSTON – Engraved on the inside of North Shore’s most recent State Championship ring are three words surrounding a cleat.
