‘Higher power’ compelled UFC fighter Irwin Rivera to stab his sisters, police say
UFC fighter Irwin Rivera was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder Thursday after stabbing his two sisters while they slept in his home in Boynton Beach, Florida, ESPN reported. According to the report, the 31-year-old mixed martial artist was taken into custody by the Boynton Beach Police Department Thursday morning after initially fleeing the scene. Believing he killed his sisters, Rivera confessed to police it was his purpose, stating he was compelled by a “higher power,” according to an incident report obtained by ESPN. According to the incident report, Boynton Beach Police officers found Rivera’s 22- and 33-year-old sisters alive with multiple stab wounds after being called to a residence. “UFC is aware of the recent incident involving Irwin Rivera and subsequently received information from his management that he has been exhibiting behavior consistent with mental health issues,” the UFC statement read.

HOUSTON Comedian, podcaster, UFC commentator and former Fear Factor host Joe Rogan is trading the Californian sun for some Texas barbecue, as he announced his plans to relocate to the Lone Star State. In his July 24 podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan cited overpopulation, traffic, and the need for freedom being a few of the reasons he has been persuaded to move from his current home of Los Angeles. Rogan also hopes that with his move to Texas, he could save $13 million in taxes, as California has a 13.3% income tax rate, Newsweek reported. The move comes after Rogan signed a $100-million contract with Spotify to air his podcasts exclusively starting in September. He already earns more than $30 million through YouTube, according to Newsweek.

The UFC's mysterious Fight Island is actually Yas Island, a popular tourist destination in Abu Dhabi where the mixed martial arts promotion will hold four shows in July. The UFC revealed the location Tuesday and announced a series of fan-free shows at Fight Island, starting with a card tentatively featuring three title fights at UFC 251 on July 11. The UFC has staged past fight cards most recently in September on the leisure island in the United Arab Emirates. The UFC will hold subsequent shows on Yas Island on July 15, July 18 and July 25.
