HOUSTON โ Funeral arrangements have been announced for Houston Fire Capt. Tommy Searcy, who died from coronavirus this week. Searcy, 45, died from COVID-19 complications Tuesday after a months-long battle with the virus. Visitation for Searcy will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 15 at Champion Forest Baptist Church. In early August, Peรฑa announced that 50-year-old firefighter paramedic Jerry Pacheco had also died from coronavirus complications.
HFD captain dies after monthslong battle with coronavirus, officials say
HOUSTON Houston Fire Capt. Tommy Searcy, 45, died Tuesday after a monthslong battle with coronavirus, the Fire Department confirmed to KPRC 2. His death will be classified as a line-of-duty death by HFD, the union wrote on Facebook. We are praying for his three daughters, Kaylin, Krista and Kinley, and his twin brother, Tony, who is a senior captain in HFD. Turner: Houstons positivity rate headed in right direction as area districts continue to reopen
HOUSTON Mayor Sylvester Turner said Monday that the citys coronavirus positivity rate was headed in the right direction as school districts in the area continue to reopen. Turner said the Houston Health Department is reporting 158 new coronavirus cases and eight additional virus-related deaths as of Monday. He said the number of new COVID-19 cases is low and he was proud to say the city is moving in the right direction. As of Monday, Turner announced that the citys positivity rate is 7.8%, which is a significant decrease compared to last weeks positivity rate at 9.8%. Houston Health Departments Dr. David Persse said it is important for the positivity rate to stay low ahead of school reopenings and virus season.
Colleagues fight red tape to get experimental treatment for HFD Capt. Searcy battling COVID-19
Captain Tommy Searcy is in critical condition at Memorial Hermann in the Woodlands, officials said, Tuesday. After hours of communication and battling red tape, early Tuesday morning, Searcyโs colleagues brought over an experimental drug which they hope will help save his life. Unrelenting determination is the feeling consuming Lancton and Searcyโs colleagues, including Searcyโs twin Tony, who is also an HFD captain. With dwindling options, firefighters had hoped an experimental drug being used in Houston could be an answered prayer, but the trial is being facilitated at Houston Methodist. Searcy is at Memorial Hermann in the Woodlands.
Another HFD firefighter hospitalized with coronavirus
HOUSTON The Houston Fire Department is asking for prayers as another one of their own battles coronavirus in the hospital. The request for prayer comes days after HFD lost a second member due to coronavirus. Houston Fire Chief Sam Pea tweeted Monday that Houston firefighter paramedic and 17-year veteran Jerry Pacheco, 50, died from complications of COVID-19 on Monday morning. The first member of the HFD to die from complications due to coronavirus was Capt. Both Pacheco and Lucio also worked in Kingwood at stations 101 and 103 respectively.
