City of La Porte investigating โstrong natural gas odorโ impacting Deer Park, Pasadena area
LA PORTE, Texas โ Investigation underway after a strong natural gas odor affecting the Deer Park and Pasadena area, according to La Porte Emergency Management. Harris County Pollution Control and La Porte Fire Department are investigating the cause of the odor. The City of La Porte is aware of a strong natural gas odor in the city. The La Porte Fire Department and Harris County Pollution Control are investigating. The League City Volunteer Fire Department and Police Department are investigating the strange odor being detected citywide.
Crowded Houston nightclub evacuated over โlife-safety concernโ
HOUSTON โ Authorities evacuated a crowded Houston club overnight for โlife-safety concernโ described as going โbeyond the issue with COVID.โAt around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, officers were dispatched to Spire Nightclub, located at 1720 Main St. in downtown Houston, in reference to reports of a large gathering. In addition to the crowding outside, the club had exceeded its capacity inside, Houston police said. The club was hosting an event dubbed the โAll Black Affairโ Saturday night, according the clubโs website. It was to the point where it became a life safety issue, a fire hazard. Spire Nightclub was one of the first business listed on the wall and remains there to this day.
HFD captain becomes the first Houston firefighter to die from COVID-19
HOUSTON Houston Fire Captain Leroy Lucio died Monday night after almost a month-long battle with COVID-19. Captain Lucio was a really, really good people person. Lucio, a 29-year veteran of the department, was in critical condition in the ICU at a San Antonio hospital. HFD said 175 firefighters are currently in quarantine and 59 firefighters have tested positive. Funeral services will be held in the San Antonio area next week.
HFD trucks, other vehicles out of service due to staffing shortages caused by pandemic
HOUSTON โ The Houston Fire Department chief said the staff was โmaintaining operationsโ but โstretched thinโ after additional firefighters were quarantined on Monday. Fire Station 68โฒs ladder truck is one of six HFD trucks and other vehicles currently out of service because there arenโt enough firefighters to staff them, said Marty Lancton, HFDโs union president. โOn a perfect day, take COVID out of it, we donโt have the minimum staffing required for each apparatus,โ Lancton said. As expected, residents who live near the fire station said they were unaware of staffing problems at the fire department. Chief Pena said many firefighters are voluntarily working extra shifts to make sure Houston is covered.
