A Houston woman has filed a sexual assault lawsuit against Rice University and a former piano instructor โ who is serving time for indecency with another child โ claiming years of abuse that began when she was just 10 years old.

HOUSTON โ With all adults in Texas now able to sign up for the COVID vaccine, many employers are coming up with plans to encourage their employees to get vaccinated. We are 22,000-square-feet and itโs just we have to protect everybody.โFor now, at the Rice Village salon, itโs not a mandate for employees to get the vaccine, but they are strongly encouraging it. We have to protect our clientele and we have to protect our business. AdWeโve checked with several local businesses and most, for now, said they are strongly encouraging their employees to get vaccinated, but not requiring it at this time. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turnerโs office said the Mayor is doing the same thing; encouraging municipal employees to get the vaccine, but not requiring it.
Mulkey, Schwartz lead Rice past Ole Miss for WNIT title
Rice (23-4), which won the 2017 WBI, won its first WNIT title. Jasmine Smith added 11 points, nine rebounds and four steals for the Owls. Donetta Johnson made a layup that gave Ole Miss (15-12) its first lead with 6:12 left in the first quarter but Schwartz answered with a layup on the other end just 18 seconds later and Rice led the rest of the way. The rest of the Ole Miss team combined to make 11 of 45 (24.4%) from the field. The previous two WNIT champions, Arizona and Indiana, are in the Elite 8 of the 2021 Women's NCAA Tournament.
Charged Santa Fe High gunman to remain in state hospital for another year

Judge Ellisor is expected to sign another order for Pagourtzis to remain at North Texas State Hospital for 12 more months. AdโThe Court recently received, and transmitted to the State and Defense, a report from the North Texas State Hospital that Dimitrios Pagourtzis remains incompetent to stand trial. AdIn state court, Pagourtzis is considered an adult but his age at the time of the shooting prevents him from receiving either the death penalty or life without parole.

Houston native Anthony Rendon was honored at this yearโs SpringSpirit Breakfast for Champions, and the Lamar and Rice alum made the event worthwhile with a great message and some fun. Berkman and his wife are heavily involved in SpringSpirit, and the Astros legend interviewed Rendon on stage. โMy wife and I are very passionate about trying to give back; weโve started our own non-profit,โ said Rendon. There were laughs, of course; after all, Rendonโs spectacular performance in October 2019 helped the Nationals win a World Series against the Astros. โItโs the first time Iโve ever seen somebodyโs World Series highlights where nobody in the room clapped,โ said Reid Ryan.

HOUSTON โ Senior Nicole Lennon brings fire, energy, and leadership to the Rice Owls. โWhat I really appreciate about her is that she really knows how to celebrate the game,โ said head coach Genny Volpe. Lennonโs leadership on the court is obvious, but coach Volpe said her leadership off the court is just as important. โMy goal for myself, always, is just to be the best possible leader and supporter for my team and my teammates,โ Lennon said. โFor overall team chemistry, having good relationships together transfers onto the court in how we play,โ Lennon said.
The Latest: Flames temporarily relocating AHL team to Canada
The team announced Thursday that the Stockton Heat will play this season in Calgary's Scotiabank Saddledome. The move leaves the Vancouver Canucks (Utica, New York) and Edmonton Oilers (Bakersfield, California) as the lone Canadian teams with American-based AHL affiliates this season. The teams were initially set to play in Atlanta in early January, but both games were postponed because of the coronavirus. The development comes a day after the Riveters were not allowed to play their game against the Buffalo Beauts. This provides teams a two-day break as there were no games scheduled for Friday.

Rice stuns No. 15 Marshall
HOUSTON โ Rice was the underdog heading into Saturdayโs road game against a 7-0 Marshall team. Not only because Marshall is ranked, but because Rice was without their starting quarterback Mike Collins and wide receiver Austin Trammel. But somehow, someway... Mike Bloomgren and the Owls stunned Marshall with a 20-0 win on the road. The Owls defense held Marshallโs offense to just 245 yards. According to the school, Rice shut out a ranked opponent for the first time since 1960.
Rice uses 5 interceptions to upset No. 15 Marshall 20-0
The Rice defense held โ and took its frustrations out on the Thundering Herd the rest of the game. Safety Naeem Smith returned one of five Marshall interceptions for a touchdown and Rice shocked the 15th-ranked Thundering Herd 20-0 on Saturday for their first loss. Marshall had not played in three weeks, while Rice was playing only its fourth game of the entire season. Marshall: The Thundering Herd were shut out for the first time since 2000 and for the first time at their home stadium. The Thundering Herd had been scheduled to play at Florida International the same night, but Conference USA announced Saturday that the game has been canceled.
Stratford High School holds signing day
HOUSTON โ Wednesday represented signing day for winter and spring sports, with hundreds of high school athletes signing to play sports at big-time programs. The Stratford Spartans sent eight players across various sports to signing day, including a baseball rivalry. Baseball teammates now rivalsStratford has a great baseball team, in part due to Mark Perkins and Tab Tracy. Perkins, a pitcher will play at Rice while Tracy, a versatile OF/1B, will play at the University of Houston. Perkins said he wants to keep the Rice pitching tradition alive and hopes to win a championship with the Owls.
