Ben Taub Hospital has been re-verified as a Level I trauma center, one of two in Harris County. It provides essential trauma care and trains future healthcare professionals in partnership with Baylor College of Medicine. Upcoming events include a trauma conference on May 21 and a survivor celebration on May 30.

A man was shot and killed near Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital in Houston after a confrontation with his wife’s family.

The hospital was briefly put on lockdown as a precautionary measure following the altercation and shooting that took place between the occupants of two vehicles.

Harris County Attorney Christian D. Menefee announced that the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality approved a permit for a concrete crushing facility to be built near LBJ Hospital. The action has prompted legal action from county officials.

In this election on Nov. 7, voters within Harris County approved a $2.5 billion bond that will help renovate Ben Taub General Hospital and Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital.

A surge in COVID-19 patients, due to the highly contagious Delta variant, is creating problems for hospitals all across Texas.

A Houston hospital said it was inundated with patients over the weekend, prompting it to announce an “internal disaster” and leading to wait times up to 24 hours.

HOUSTON Kony Chacon is crediting a century-old treatment for helping her recover from COVID-19 and hold her newborn daughter at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital. In a press release from Harris Health System, convalescent plasma therapy was used on Chacon while she was being treated by doctors for COVID-19, unable to see her baby and husband for approximately 10 days. The Houston-area woman thought it was symptoms related to her pregnancy at first, but ultimately led to a 10-day stay at the hospital. Her breathing led to doctors considering intubation, but opted for convalescent plasma therapy. Harris Health System and the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Bank have partnered up to encourage those individuals who recovered from COVID-19 to donate their convalescent plasma.

HOUSTON – As COVID-19 continues to spread, experts are constantly working to find possible treatments. This week, we’ve learned about two different trials going on in Houston. First Trial: Arthritis drug trial at LBJ HospitalResearchers at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston are working on a new COVID-19 clinical trial. “If it works in this type of inflammation, it may work in COVID-19 inflammation too,” he said. There are several COVID-19 trials going on right now in Houston including a stem cell study at UT Health.
