Hunters found the woman's remains in December 1977 in the small community of Escatawpa in coastal Jackson County, Mississippi, and investigators had referred to her since then as โEscatawpa Jane Doe.โ Sheriff Mike Ezell said in a news release Tuesday that investigators used DNA to identify the remains as those of Clara Birdlong, who was born in 1933 in Leflore County, Mississippi, which is nearly 300 miles (483 kilometers) northwest of Jackson County.

Morrison was a lance corporal and served in the Marine Corps Reserve from 2015 until Thursday, the day he was arraigned on state charges. The Marine Corps said his departure from the reserves is โunrelated to (his) current situation.โMorrisonโs last assignment was with the 4th Marine Logistics Group in Battle Creek, Michigan.
Former Jackson County Treasurer Sentenced to Prison for Identity Theft and Wire Fraud Scheme
The former treasurer of Jackson County, Kentucky, was sentenced today to 45 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. U.S. District Judge Claria Horn Boom sentenced Beth N. Sallee, 39, of McKee, Kentucky, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky. Sallee was also ordered to pay $161,808.23 in restitution for devising a multi-year scheme to defraud the Jackson County Fiscal Court of over $160,000 and for misusing the identity of a Jackson County employee to facilitate her theft. The unauthorized checks drew on various Jackson County Fiscal Court accounts, including the Department of Emergency Services grant, payroll and general fund accounts. To enable her scheme, Sallee forged the signature of other Jackson County employees on unauthorized checks without their knowledge or permission.

The flooding that shut down Highway 59 also caused concerns in the city of Wharton Wednesday. The University Place Apartments in the 300 block of University lost power before midnight and a resident smelled electric lines smoldering. "Even though the water wasn't that high when they would drive thru the high water it would push it into peoples homes and businesses causing serious problems," Stanphill said.
