The Galveston firefighters who rescued eight Houston students stranded nearly 100 feet in the air on a stalled roller coaster said the operation required hours of planning, improvisation and patience to prevent what could have become a tragedy.

The 16-year-old went missing Saturday night around 9:30 p.m.A family friend said the teen had been swimming with friends near the 4400 block of Seawall Blvd. The Galveston Police Department, Galveston Fire Department, Galveston Island Beach Patrol Galveston County EMS and the U.S. Coast Guard were among the agencies involved in the search for the missing teen.
