HOUSTON – Day four of Houston Texans Training Camp sent the team indoors for the first time.
Severe heat over the past three days forced head coach Bill O'Brien and his staff to give the players a break, yet they still got all of their work taken care of inside the practice bubble on Wednesday.
"We're just going to mix it up every now and then. We'll be outside tomorrow. They'll be off on Friday. We'll be outside Saturday and Sunday, probably come back in here on Monday. But we'll be outside the majority of the time. We love the Houston heat," O'Brien said.
New quarterback Brock Osweiler talked about the change of scenery and said the team had more energy and enthusiasm and the attention to detail was there. They also executed well in the eyes of Osweiler.
"I think we had a phenomenal day as a team. The offense came out here, defense came out here. We competed all practice long. You're right, we were inside. It's a little bit cooler in here," Osweiler said. "I think guys felt fresh, and you could really see it on the field. Guys were working hard out there, they were competing. I think there was a good energy about this team at practice today, which was a lot of fun."
The pads stayed on for a second consecutive day so the physical edge to practice was there again.
It's still very early in camp so a lot of evaluation is going on with all of the guys trying to win jobs on this final roster.
The first preseason game doesn't take place until a week from Sunday when the Texans travel to San Francisco to take on the 49ers.
