HOUSTON – With the first day of school around the corner, the Harris County Clerk’s Office is opening its doors on a weekend to help parents and guardians check a key item off their back-to-school list: securing a certified birth certificate for student registration.
The office will host its sixth annual Back-to-School Birth Certificate Event on Saturday, Aug. 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The service will be available at all 10 Harris County Clerk annex locations, giving working families a Saturday option to obtain documents that are often required by schools.

Certified birth certificates will be available for $23 per copy. The Harris County Clerk’s Office says the event is intended for people who were born in Texas and who are eligible to request a certified copy—typically the person named on the record, an immediate family member, or a legal representative. Those requesting a certificate should bring a valid photo ID, such as a Texas driver’s license, a state or federal identification card, a military ID, or a U.S. passport, along with any supporting documentation if needed.
