LA MARQUE, Texas – La Marque police are investigating a shootout between the occupants of three vehicles that crashed, leaving one man dead and another under arrest, officials said.
Authorities said the three vehicles were involved in a crash on FM 2004 and FM 1764 around 4 a.m. Saturday.
Police said the occupants were shooting at each other.
Police are unsure if the shooting started before or after the crash, but 26-year-old Desmond Benjamin died as a result of the altercation.
Officials said Maurice Lowe, 27, was arrested at the scene. He was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance. Lowe is being held in jail on a $100,000 bail.
Investigators said two other people were injured during the episode.
Police are unsure if the injuries were a result of the crash or the gunfire.
