HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Big trouble was found Thursday with gasoline being sold at the Stripes Sunoco gas station located at Bammel North Houston Road and West Greens Road in north Harris County.
“One of the victims screamed, ‘Stop filling up your cars with gas, it’s bad gas here,'” John Landry, who filled his car with fuel from the station, said.
But the warning came too late for Mariya, a medical student from Klein.
She filled up her Cadillac Escalade at the station, but she didn’t get very far after leaving the lot.
“So I completely filled my tank and so then I got in my car and left and at this light right over here my car started shaking, so I pulled into this neighborhood and my car completely shut down. I am waiting for a wrecker right now,” Mariya said.
At approximately 1 p.m. Thursday, station management put yellow bags over every gas pump at the station.
We at Channel 2 Investigates contacted Stripes/Sunoco for answers to what is going on and how many customers could be affected.
The company responded just before 6 p.m. Thursday with this statement:
"We have been made aware of the situation by some of our customers and have shut down fuel operations at this location. We are currently investigating the situation."
As for Mariya and Landry, they have both filed claims with Stripes Sunoco to have any damage done to their vehicles covered by the company.
If you visited the station and are having trouble with your car, the best thing you can do is return to the gas station and fill out a claim form.
