HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A shooting outside a business along the North Freeway left one young man dead and another hospitalized early Sunday, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called around 1:30 a.m. to the 12901 block of the North Freeway near Airtex, where they found two male victims — ages 18 and 20 — suffering from gunshot wounds, investigators said. Both were taken to a hospital, but the 18-year-old was pronounced dead. The 20-year-old was listed in stable condition.
Investigators said two groups were involved in an argument in a parking lot after leaving a cantina. At some point, the dispute escalated when one person retrieved a firearm from a vehicle and began firing. Witnesses told deputies there was a single shooter, and that person drove away from the scene.
Authorities said a witness followed the suspect’s vehicle while providing updates to 911, which helped deputies locate and detain the individual. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the HCSO homicide office for questioning.
Detectives believe the victims are related, possibly cousins. Charges had not been filed as of early Sunday, but investigators said a murder charge is expected.
