SPRING – A Spring man is being held on a $1 million bond after investigators say he severely injured his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter — repeatedly — over the course of several days.
Gerardo Gonzalez is charged with injury to a child. Prosecutors say the charge could be upgraded depending on whether the girl survives. She remains on life support.
According to court records, the alleged abuse began Aug. 1. Investigators say Gonzalez hit the toddler in the head multiple times, causing a skull fracture. The girl’s mother, Jazmin Cisneros, saw visible injuries and Gonzalez admitted to hitting the child — but the girl did not receive medical treatment.
Five days later, on Aug. 6, prosecutors say the abuse happened again. This time, they allege Gonzalez stomped on the child, leaving her with a lacerated liver and a broken pelvis. She later became unresponsive.
Gonzalez and Cisneros then left their home on Rendezvous Court in Spring to take the child to a hospital. On the way, they encountered deputy constables at a gas station on Cypresswood Drive and stopped for help. The toddler was airlifted to a hospital, where she remains on life support.
Prosecutors also revealed this was not the first incident involving the child or the family. KPRC 2 is working to learn more about what happened before the alleged assaults and whether law enforcement or Child Protective Services had previous contact with the family.
“As parents, we have been given and entrusted to raise them up and to protect them, provide for them, and love them,” a prosecutor said. “And so certainly, when someone does not do that, we hold them accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
Cisneros is also charged with injury to a child and is being held on a $500,000 bond. Investigators say she failed to seek medical care after the Aug. 1 incident because she feared Gonzalez would go to jail.
Gonzalez remains in jail on a $1 million bond. Court records show his next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 8. If he posts bond, he would be required to wear a GPS monitor and have no contact with the victim.
