Mother, 2 young children dead in apparent murder-suicide at hotel near NRG Stadium

Woman fatally shoots her children before turning gun of self, officials say

HOUSTON – An investigation is underway after a mother and who first responders believe to be her two young children were found dead inside a third-floor hotel room Friday afternoon in southwest Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

The shooting was reported at 11:43 a.m. at the Residence Inn by Marriott, located at 7807 Kirby Drive, near NRG Stadium.

Officials with the Houston Fire Department said the 40-year-old woman fatally shot her two young kids and then turned the gun on herself in their room.

Police said the woman checked in Wednesday and maintenance workers went to check on her Friday morning and the room door was locked from the inside. Once inside, they found the woman dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Her children, a 9-year-old boy and 6-year-old girl, were also found dead with gunshot wounds.

Their deaths is believed to be a murder-suicide.

Homicide detectives spent hours at the scene Friday while hotel operations continued.

The identities of everyone involved have not yet been released.
