According to court documents, the investigation started on Dec. 15, 2025 when authorities say the school’s assistant principal was made aware parents were making allegations of inappropriate behavior by Maldonado.

The court documents say Maldonado met with law enforcement for an interview on December 19, 2025 where he allegedly stated he knew he pushed the line being overly friendly with students and even if it was not a crime, he knew the school had an argument that standards of conduct had been crossed. Maldonado also allegedly said he gave the kids candy and if they wanted to hug him because they got candy, they could. Maldonado stated students would come up to him, hug him and sit on his lap, but these situations were uncommon.

Over a several month long investigation, multiple students alleged Maldonado had touched them inappropriately, ranging from asking students to sit in his lap, to putting his hands up clothing.

Several students alleged Maldonado would ask them to sit in his lap and they did so because they were afraid of getting in trouble. One student alleged Maldonado threatened to call her parents if she refused.

Most of the allegations from the court records were from the 2025-2026 school year, but one was from last year’s school year.

Montgomery County jail records indicate Maldonado has been released after posting a $150,000 bond.
