Ikelle Fevrier, Meismer’s girlfriend, said she was devastated when she learned what had happened.
“Andrew was my everything,” Fevrier said. “Andrew was something to everyone, regardless of if you liked him or not... I don’t even know how to feel.”
Fevrier was at a different school when the attack happened and said she didn’t find out until she heard the news from a friend’s boyfriend.
She described the moment she saw a video of Meismer being carried from the school after he was stabbed.
“I didn’t get to see him; I didn’t get to hold him,” Fevrier said. “I hated seeing the video of him being dragged down the stairs with no rush. There was so much that could have been done.”
Andrew’s mother was at Sterling High School on Thursday morning. Fevrier described his mother’s state as “distraught.”
Fevrier also said she doesn’t believe the district contacted Andrew’s mother quickly enough and felt the school’s response did not match the gravity of the traumatic events.
“They’re worried about their test grades and finals because it’s finals week,” Fevrier said. “[After a temporary hold period] They just sent everyone back to class like a kid didn’t just get murdered on their property.”
The 18-year-old student accused of stabbing Meismer has been in police custody since the incident.
KPRC 2 has contacted local authorities throughout the day to positively identify the suspect.
The Goose Creek CISD Police Department, which is leading the investigation, would not provide any information about the suspect, citing confidentiality related to the case. The department suggested contacting the Baytown Jail, where the suspect was processed following the incident.
Baytown Jail confirmed that an 18-year-old was charged with murder on Wednesday but would not confirm whether the man is connected to the investigation at the school.
Earlier Thursday, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office refuted local news coverage identifying a suspect in the case, calling the report “inaccurate.”
