A Precinct 4 deputy constable is recovering after inhaling an unknown white powder during a traffic stop early Friday morning in the Atascocita area, according to Constable Mark Herman.

The incident happened around 4 a.m. in the 16800 block of Ramsay Cascades Drive near Pierson Hollow Drive. Investigators say the driver initially evaded deputies before eventually being detained. As deputies searched the vehicle, a white powdery substance became airborne, causing one deputy to inhale it and quickly become ill.

Constable deputies immediately administered multiple doses of Narcan until paramedics arrived and took the deputy to the hospital. His condition has not yet been released.

The suspect was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and evading in a vehicle, with additional charges possible once lab results confirm the substance involved.

Constable Herman said the swift response by deputies prevented “a much worse outcome.”

The investigation is ongoing.
