Fatal crash investigation underway after elderly Houston woman drives into trees

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash involving an elderly woman near the Third Ward area.

The wreck happened at 2200 Briley St. around 6:55 a.m. on Sunday, March 9.

The identity of the victim, a 74-year-old woman, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

According to HPD, a brown Nissan Murano was traveling north on Briley when it left the roadway, crossed a ditch, and struck a group of trees on the west side of the road.

The woman was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

No other individuals or vehicles were involved in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
