Man who fled to Mexico after killing ex-girlfriend in 2022 sentenced to life in prison

HOUSTON – A man who fled the country after kidnapping and killing his ex-girlfriend in 2022 has been sentenced to life in prison,
Daniel Chacon was sentenced for the killing of Maira Gutierrez.
The crime happened on Oct. 3, 2022.

Right: Victim Maira Gutierrez, 38 (KPRC 2) Gutierrez was reportedly forced into a vehicle by Chacon in the 3800 block of Red Bluff in Pasadena. The SUV was later found on Cedar Crest near Sunnycrest, with Gutierrez dead from a gunshot wound inside.
After killing Gutierrez, Chacon fled to Nuevo Laredo in Mexico. On Oct. 6, he was taken into custody by multiple agencies at the Laredo Port of Entry.
On Tuesday, a jury found Chacon guilty of capital murder and he was sentenced to life in prison.
Gutierrez was a mother to four children. She and Chacon also had a daughter together.
