Colder temperatures mean a drop in tire pressure. What to know
HOUSTON – When the temperatures drop - your tire pressure does too!
Maybe you noticed it with our last cold front on Monday.
The Storm Tracker 2 team noticed it after our temperatures went from 80 to 60.
But why?
For every 10° drop in temperature - tire pressure decreases by 1 PSI. (Pound per square inch)
This means our tire pressure dropped by two after driving through the cold front in Brenham .
So why is it important to fill your tires up?
It reduces traction on the roads - especially in the rain
You increase the risk for an accident, a blowout or a bent rim.
Wears your tires out faster
Reduces fuel efficiency
The above is not only dangerous but could cost you thousands in repairs.
So why is this a good reminder?
The next cold front is going to drop our temperatures which means your tire pressure light might come on too!

Thursday 7 am: 48
Friday 7 am: 47
And the good news? It’s a quick fix! You can fill up your tires when you fill up your tank - just make sure to dress in layers because while we start the mornings in the 40s and 50s - we will hit the 70s in the afternoon.
