Nine dogs were rescued from horrific conditions at a Houston home after officials were alerted to a kitten being set on fire Wednesday night.

The Houston SPCA and Harris County Constable Precinct 1 investigated the property, located in to 300 block of Drifting Winds Drive after a surveillance video captured a kitten running down a nearby street while engulfed in flames.

In the search, officials seized nine dogs -- seven of which were puppies.

Authorities said the dogs were kept in filthy wire kennels stored inside of a shed. They were also found to be malnourished and did not have access to food or water. A civil seizure was issued, allowing the mistreated dogs to be immediately removed from the residence.

“Animals don’t have voices to speak for themselves, we all have to be their voice,” Constable Alan Rosen said.

The kitten was taken into the care of the SPCA. On Thursday morning, she was humanely euthanized after suffering extreme burns and internal injuries.

A hearing for custody of the animals is scheduled for next week, and the investigation into the situation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about this case is being asked to call the Harris County Constable Precinct 1 dispatch office at 713-755-7628 and they will be directed to its animal cruelty center.
