According to investigators, an unidentified employee saw two men on surveillance video trying to steal a golf cart. He went to confront them and get them to leave when a fight broke out and the employee was shot.
A woman security guard the victim worked with was armed, but police say she wasn’t able to draw her weapon before the gunmen ran off.
The employee has been described as being in his 40s, while the shooters are believed to be in their teens.
The farmers market opens to the public at 6 a.m. but reportedly opens early for deliveries. For that reason, investigators believe the killers knew that the door would be open, so they got inside but it’s unclear if they took anything.
Due to the active investigation, the farmers market will be closed until further notice.
