Woman dies after being shot by her wife during fight at home in east Houston

HOUSTON – A woman is dead after she was shot and killed by her wife in east Houston on Thursday, according to the Houston Police Department.

The shooting took place on Doris Oaks Circle at Hilda Oaks at around 1:25 a.m.

Officers said the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Portia Phillips, shot her wife while the two were in a fight.

Police arrived and said Phillips met them at the door with blood on her face and arms. The suspect then directed officers to a bedroom, where they found the 38-year-old victim whose identity has not yet been released.

Emergency crews were headed to the residence while on the phone with someone in the house, attempting to save the woman who had been shot. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they found the gun in the bedroom and detained Phillips for questioning. The suspect reportedly told police that the couple had gotten into an argument and she pointed a gun at the victim. At some point during the argument, the gun went off.

After consulting with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, charges were filed against Phillips and she was taken to the Harris County Jail.
