Army bugler's trumpet stolen from truck

Instrument played at military funerals

SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (WISC-TV) -- A Sun Prairie man who plays trumpet for the Army is asking for his instrument back after it was stolen on Veterans Day.

This past weekend, Staff Sgt. Matthew Miller was in Milwaukee for the Army. He was staying in the same hotel he usually stays in when he goes there once a month for battle assembly, but this time someone broke open his back window and stole his trumpet from his back seat overnight.

“When it was gone, it was like a piece of me had left me,” Miller said.

The trumpet is the same one he plays at military funerals and that he took on tour with him in Iraq.

His wife wrote a Facebook post about it early this week, and it has gotten massive attention. It's been shared almost 3,000 times and has hundreds of comments from people extending their support or offering to give him a new trumpet.
