HOUSTON – A man was found dead outside of his home early Saturday, Houston Police said.
The deadly encounter took place around 2 a.m. near the intersection of Phlox and Scott Streets in Sunnyside.
A witness told police that they heard a gunshot, then saw a man fleeing the home.
The victim, identified by family as 35-year-old Rundrick "Jelly" Dudley, was believed to have been returning home when he was shot in the head and killed, police said. He never made it inside his home.
Dudley lived in the home by himself, investigators said. No one else, other than his dogs, were home at the time.
Dudley leaves behind three children ages 16, 13 and 11, family said.
Police are searching to see if a nearby daycare's surveillance system caught the incident.
